History

Founded in 1984 as Ceroform Ltd, by industrial wax chemists Tony Ward and Brian Scudder, the company changed its name in 1990 to The Darent Wax Company Limited when it moved to premises on the banks of the River Darent near Dartford, Kent.

In 1996, after rapid expansion, a new factory was built and equipped adjacent to its original site where it develops and manufactures a wide range of products for many industries and markets globally.

In 2003 The Darent Wax Company PTY Ltd was opened in Australia to serve customers throughout Australasia. The facility, located in Sydney, includes an office and manufacturing capabilities.

In 2005 Wilkins Campbell became a trading division of The Darent Wax Company following the merger of Darent Wax and Wilkins Campbell & Co Limited. The addition of Wilkins Campbell’s 130 years of experience in wax blending has resulted in an even wider range of products and expertise for the customers of both Darent Wax and Wilkins Campbell.

In 2009 we acquired Fred Gibson Ltd, manufacturers of wax-based lubricants for the textiles industry.

In 2014 we opened a new factory 5 miles from headquarters. We have invested heavily in this site to ensure we remain at the forefront of our industry. The new factory has been fitted with modern purpose-built blending technology, product transfer systems, and fully ATEX-rated flameproof machinery. We use this factory to produce solvent dispersions, polishes and release agents. This recent investment has increased our capacity over all factory areas, and has allowed us to continue to manufacture the highest quality products with outstanding customer service.

2015 saw a partial MBO instigated by Tony Ward, who invited 5 of the senior management team onto the Board of Directors. While Tony has no plans for retirement yet, the business has seen sufficent growth to warrant a more formal structure and it was felt that the partial MBO would aid in further growth for Darent Wax.

We currently have five full time chemists dedicated to developing new products and processes for speciality waxes. Our production facilities are probably the most modern of their kind in the UK, with purpose made equipment and a dedicated, adaptable workforce.

Darent Wax Australia

Darent Wax Australia began operation in 2003 after changes in the Australian wax industry left a gap in the market. Now, DWA manufactures a variety of speciality wax blends in our factory in Sydney’s south west. Purpose-built blending equipment, a huge knowledge database, and the ability to draw on DWUK’s technical resources allow DWA to supply premium products and superior technical service throughout Australasia.

Across all of our sites, our flexible manufacturing facilities enable each wax to be made in quantities to suit the customers needs. We can supply the wax in a variety of forms from 20g blocks up to large slabs or drums.

We are available to give advice on all areas of wax blending. If you have any queries please contact our team using the enquiry form or send us an email.
